The CDL is a partner with the family in the education and socialization of children during their early years. It offers many opportunities for family involvement in a child's educational experience. Students, faculty members, and families all benefit from these shared activities, learning from one another and working together for the well-being of the children. CDL has offered programming for students, families, and children since 1948.

From September through May, the Department of Family & Child Ecology operates a child development program on campus and at the Wilkshire Early Childhood Center in Haslett. The East Lansing program is housed in Central School on the corner of Grand River and Hillcrest Avenues and the Haslett program is located on the corner of Haslett Road and Academic Way in Wilkshire Elementary School. The programs have a 4-fold mission - to provide:

an exemplary setting for training students in child development

outstanding service to children and their families

a research setting for faculty and students
a base for outreach to other early childhood professionals
