Sandy L. Leong currently serves as an academic advisor in the Department of Family and Child Ecology after serving as an advisor for over two years in the Department of Psychology at Michigan State and previously as the MBA Academic Advisor at  Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  Sandy comes with over twelve years of student services experience, including directing two law schools’ career services offices, working as a Counselor and Staff Assistant in the International and Graduate Admissions Office at a Big Ten university, and serving as both a personal and career counselor at The National University of Singapore.

Sandy earned an M.A. Degree in Counseling and Personnel Services with the College of Student Personnel Specialization from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1984 with Phi Kappa Phi honors recognition.  Her master’s thesis was on the topic of  counseling expectations of rational, intuitive, and dependent decision makers, and was developed into a Journal of Counseling Psychology publication with co-authors F.T. Leong, Ph.D. and M.A. Hoffman, Ph.D.  Sandy earned a B.S. in Biology with cum laude Honors from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine in 1979.  While at Bates, she also took a variety of Education and Psychology courses as part of her liberal arts education. She transferred to Bates College after attending Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri for two years.

Sandy is currently a member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and the Michigan Academic Advising Association (MIACADA).
